Henry Ford (1863-1947) founded at the start of the century the Detroit Automobile Company, and within a few years the Henry Ford Company and the Ford & Malcolmson Company and finally the surviving Ford Motor Company in 1903. The marque's calligraphic logo text was alraedy found in model T and the A-model arrived with the oval badge on its nose. Ford oval
The modern European Ford models have the oval shape extended to the shape of the radiator grille itself. During the fifties the text type and the oval were due for modernization but the tradition was stronger and the old style was kept.

Ford

Ford has factories with autonomic design capabilities in the US, England (founded as early as 1911), Germany (founded in 1925), Australia (1925-) and Brasil (assembly factory since 1925, own models since 1967). The latter also has produced cars based on other than Ford products, such as Willys and Renault.

In France Ford had an assembly plant since 1916 and in 1934 Ford joined Mathis by founding Matford. The Matford company assembled Fords and produced their own variations. After the Second World War the company launched the Vedette model which originally was designed as a small Ford for the American market. In 1954 Ford sold all their operations in France to Simca, which continued producing the Vedettes until 1962.

Ford Köln

All the Ford factories have used the same oval badge but the Germans had an additional double oval (mostly on their commercial vehicles) which didn't have the Ford text but the letters F and K instead (Ford Köln).
